ANCIENT ROME AND ANCIENT GREECE
NOT REALLY TWO OF A KIND

When you first look at the civilizations of Ancient Rome and Greece you might think that they are very much alike. If you take a second look you will find that there are distinct differences that separate the two cultures. The Greeks were idealists and the Romans were realists. An idealist sees the world the way they would like for it to be and strives to make things more perfect. A realist is someone who sees the world the way it really is and deals with it accordingly.

The Greeks were thinkers. They thought a great deal about the nature of things and gained new insights into math, medicine, astronomy, philosophy and the world that surrounded them. The Romans accepted the world around them but sought ways to improve the quality of everyday life by solving immediate problems. Romans were practical and they were doers. Today we are still impressed by their accomplishments. The Ancient Romans built aqueducts to bring water into their city, sewers to take waste away from the city, roads to just about every other city and buildings that still rival the architecture of any city.
